WHAT IT’S ABOUT

This drama, which originally aired in 2014, has since become a beloved classic in the K-drama world, and for good reason.

It’s a story about a mysterious night courier/errand guy who works under the alias “Healer” who is portrayed by Ji Chang-wook. He will accept any kind of work for the right amount of money except kill anyone. No one really knows him except for his competent handler, played by the great Kim Mi Kyung, and his loveable teacher, the first Healer. His ultimate goal was to save enough money to buy an island in Panama and live there alone.

One of the jobs he accepted was to get a DNA sample of this strong willed newspaper reporter, Chae Young-shin, played by Park Min-young. She currently work at a second rate tabloid agency but her dream is to become a legendary newspaper reporter . One of the people she respects in her industry is Kim Moon-ho, played by Yoo Ji-tae who ordered the tail and DNA from Healer. He is a famous journalist and works at a major broadcast station.

This is the beginning of the wonderful story of Healer and Chae Young-shin’s romance and their relationships with the people around them. Peeling the layers one by one, they slowly unveil their connection to each other and the truth behind an incident decades earlier involving a group of 5 friends and the present day murders.

REVIEW:

Healer is one of my all time favourites. I have watched it several times and it still gave me the same feeling of anticipation, excitement, lovey dovey butterflies and the satisfaction of a well done show. It really never gets old.

One of the standout aspects of “Healer” is its meticulously crafted storyline. The story unfolds with a perfect balance of suspense and character development. The titular character, Healer, portrayed by Ji Chang-wook, is a mysterious night courier who gets entangled in a web of political conspiracy and corporate corruption. His journey to uncover the truth, combined with his enigmatic past, keeps viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the series.

The chemistry between the lead characters, Healer and Chae Young-shin, played by Park Min-young, is electric. Their relationship evolves beautifully from initial intrigue to a deep emotional connection, making it one of the most memorable romances in K-drama history. Both actors deliver exceptional performances, drawing viewers into their complex and endearing characters.

The action sequences in “Healer” are nothing short of spectacular. Ji Chang-wook’s martial arts skills and the well-choreographed stunts bring a thrilling dynamic to the series. It’s not just a love story but also an adrenaline-pumping action-packed adventure, making it appealing to a broad range of audiences.

Beyond its entertainment value, “Healer” also addresses important themes of justice, media ethics, and the power of information. It raises questions about the responsibilities of journalism and the consequences of unveiling hidden truths, which adds depth and thought-provoking elements to the narrative.

The production values, including cinematography and soundtrack, are top-notch. The music complements the mood of the show beautifully and enhances the emotional impact of key scenes.

“Healer” is an intelligently crafted drama that successfully blends action, romance, and intrigue. It boasts a compelling plot, outstanding performances, and memorable characters that will keep you hooked from the very first episode. Whether you’re a K-drama enthusiast or new to the genre, “Healer” is a must-watch that will leave a lasting impression.

THE STANDOUT

The blindfold kiss on the rooftop while snowing.

And of course the requisite scene of romantic dramas – the makeover – where Ji Chang-wook and Park Min-young’s transformation from nerdy and ordinary mortal citizens to celestial drop dead gorgeous beings that will make your heart swoon and your jaw drop.
